How to install live chat on the website?
February 24, 2010
To get a live chat on your website, you need to find a provider first. There are many live chat solutions available on the market and it’s hard to make a decision, but you need to be careful with what you are going to pick. Some of the live chat software providers are cheap and affordable. Unfortunately in most cases their low price reflects low quality of the service they offer. However, you also probably do not want to overpay and spend too much money on live chat, when you can spend it on online advertising to drive more traffic to your pages, right?
I personally recommend using LivechatInc.com solution. It is something in between both ends- very good option for not too much. They offer reliable service in a reasonable price of $36/month. Sure it is a bit more than the lowest offers on the market ($19), but it’s also much less than for instance LivePerson’s $99 for a similar solution.
So, after you go ahead and download free trial to start the free of charge period of 14 days, you will need to install live chat. Installing the downloadable application is easy, but it is not the end of what you need to do. You need to place live chat codes on your website to make it actually work. Without installing monitoring code and chat button code on the website, your live chat will never reach its full functionality.
After creating the trial license, in the email confirmation you will receive 2 html codes – the monitoring code and the live chat button code. The monitoring code is responsible for ’seeing’ online visitors in your operator console. It is also required to be able to invite visitors to chat etc. The live chat button code allows online visitors to initiate chat session by clicking on the previously prepared piece of graphic.
You need to make sure you installed monitoring code on every page of your website just before the </body> tag. Place live chat button in visible parts of your website to make it easy for the online visitors to click on it and start the chat session immediately.
Both monitoring code and chat button code can be found under the Settings tab in the Control Panel (https://panel.livechatinc.net).
